Stampin' Creative Blog Hop for Wonderful Women

Welcome to February's Stampin' Creative Blog Hop, where we're being creative for Wonderful Women. It's a time to simply celebrate Women in any way … be it a good friend, a Mother or to simply celebrate the strength of a woman in general. If you've hopped over from Kim's page, then I'm sure she's already shared some great inspiration with you.
Today happens to be my Mother-in-Law's 80th Birthday. It's a wonderful age to be celebrating and we've organised a little surprise for her to meet up for lunch, with her long term friend from school and I can't wait to see the look on her face when they meet again.

I felt that a little keepsake card was needed for this milestone birthday and since she loves the colour yellow, knew that whatever I created, it had to have yellow involved.

However … I wanted the WOW to be on the inside and not immediately obvious.

I decided to do a spot of Watercolour painting for this keepsake card using Rose Wonder as the Stamp Set and the Rose Garden Thinlits to simply embellish the front.

The numbers came from the Number of Year's Stamp Set that is becoming a very heavily used stamp set for me. I have four 50th Birthdays that I can immediately think of falling within the first 6 months of this year and three 25th Wedding Anniversaries … all close friends and family.

Hopefully you can see that I've added a Wink of Stella to both the flower petals and the numbers to add a gentle shimmer … Oh my goodness, how I love that product! I've also added a few dots of Crystal Effects to add a spot of detail around the flower, that's not over powering.

Both Stamp Set and Framelit bundles that I've used come with a saving of 15% if purchased as a bundle and are just shy of earning yourself a Free Sale-a-Bration item … so add that gorgeous Wink of Stella or simply a stick of adhesive and you could choose yourself a gift from the Sale-a-Bration selection.

What wonderful woman wouldn't welcome Roses in their favourite colour for their 80th Birthday?

Now be sure to hop on over to Eimear's blog to see what she has to share.

Happy Stampin'

Mikaela x

  4. Oh My Word - I think you've done it again! The cover is beautiful to this card, and a wow in a subtle way all by itself - then inside WOW it's like a massive celebration of loveliness! I hope she loved it as much as I do :-) what a great idea. I'll be asking for the directions on this one for sure! Love the colours too, really Spring invoking.

  9. Thank you Caroline … I so wanted the inside to do all the singing and take the limelight, but equally, I wanted the front to link in in some way x

  10. Wow Pip, thank you so much for your kind words. She did most certainly love it. Yellow is her most favourite colour, so it couldn't be any other colour. She actually found it hard to believe that I'd made it … said it looked too "Professional" :-D ha ha ha ….. I think she liked it ;) Happy to share x

  11. Wow indeed! Love the understated front and the secret wow on the inside. So need to case this as doing the box frame card in this size really does change it up. Fabulous as always xxx

  12. Bless you Louise, Thank you. I so didn't want the front to fight for the attention by being equally as vibrant and although I was so unsure about it's simplicity in comparison, I you've all confirmed that it worked. It's a much smaller Box Frame, using one A4 sheet for the main frame and another for the card front and layers etc …. x

  13. Gorgeous card Mikaela... the front got my attention as gorgeously subtle... and the box frame inside just completes the job... I can only guess that she was delighted!

  14. Thank you Amanda, She most certainly was. In fact, we saw her briefly this evening and it was still sat centre stage on display. You know, I was so concerned that the front was too subtle in comparison, but from the feedback I've received, it seems to have been liked that way x
